Walking the Walk
For I am the LORD your God: ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy; for I am holy....Leviticus 11:44
Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God. Matthew 5:8
But the wisdom that is above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and hypocrisy. James 3:17
Walking the Walk
It seems to me that people ought to be able to tell we are Christians. Not by our long faces and drab attire (the Bible tells us in the book of Psalms that God laughs). But in a large part people should be able to tell that we are Christians by how we act and by what comes out of our mouths. Somewhere it says that we are to be "salt and light" in this world and I believe that we should live in a way that would cause our light to be noticed. "Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men." 2 Cor.3:2. Remember the old quote that says "you are the only Bible some people will ever read"? We are called "Christians" because we are followers and representatives of Jesus Christ.
Shouldn't we at least try to act like the fellow we are suppose to represent? Shouldn't we as children of a King hold ourselves to a standard of excellence? Christ is truth so why should we his followers tell lies? There are people watching you and if you are no different than they are what is there to attract them into God's Kingdom.
Christians cheat on their income tax, their school exams and their wives. They will curse you, watch porn and are some of the most bigoted, gossipy people you will ever meet. Not everyone of course, but more than we like to admit.
I know it is not easy to live an overcoming life, everyone falls down sometimes, everyone makes mistakes. But at the risk of sounding legalistic I remind you that He left us an instruction book and I believe he intended us to at least attempt to use it.
I was struck by a Adult church group I traveled with a while back. The trip was full of fun, laughter, and lively conversation but Christ seemed to have been forgotten in the Church parking lot. Not that anyone did anything wrong it's just that Jesus was never mentioned nor was there any discussion about the things of God. Shouldn't he be a part of our everyday lives? Shouldn't he be included in our decisions and conversations? He should be as much a part of our lives as our mate, friends and children. This doesn't mean "harping" on Christianity it means simply letting him be a natural part of your life. I'm afraid to many of us he is just a good luck charm or a fire insurance policy to be taken out and dusted off when we need him.
God is real and He loves you, why do we take that amazing fact for granted? We have been given the greatest gift imaginible. I don't mean to be fussy but we need to get a grip on what it really means to be a Christian. We are "in this world not of this world". We are talking eternal values here we are saved but how we live our lives determines who we take to heaven with us and if we will stand ashamed before our master.--Jireh's Girl
